Edinburgh, UK, 2010/2011

The photographic project, developed during an artistic residency at the Stills gallery in Edinburgh, is taking in to consideration the natural, gradual modification of our urban centers, their daily characteristics and activities as illustrated through the transformation of places of worship into venues that respond to the social needs of the time.

Nowhere is this metamorphosis more evident than in church buildings, which carry political, social, and spiritual implications relevant to past, present and future. Places of power, guardians of culture and moral. This repetitive approach to the spaces is aiming to underline the diversity and seeking to capture a residual sense of spirituality. The light, often coming from the high windows, the knowledge coming from god, is a symbol of hierarchy in a top down system. The project could be considered as a catalog creating a portrait of churches and how they are used in the first decade of the twenty-first century.

The project was exhibited at Stills gallery, Edinburgh, 2012
